Dear friends,
good morning
Yesterday in my OPD at Lotus Hospital I encountered a very satisfying feeling when I saw a 23 year old girl with sickle cell anemia (a type of anemia where our red cells, which contain hemoglobin are destroyed in 30-40 days as against a normal of 120 days due to a congenital defect in its structure) who told me that she is now working in a national institute NAIPER which is pharmaceutical research institute and that she was also planning to do basic scientific research in treatment of sickle cell disease.
she had repeated attacks of joint pain and low hemoglobin before we started her treatment many years ago. She is taking her medications which include a drug called hydroxyurea regularly.
It always fulfilling to know that our small help and expertise to patients with chronic diseases makes a huge difference to their lives.
I wish her all the best for her future and this is one of the best part of being a doctor!
I am proud to be a doctor in this great country which gives me an opportunity to serve people in my day to day life.
