Dear friends Today is a special day for all at Lotus Institute of Bone marrow transplantation. We have successfully done a transplant on a 17 year old patient with a rare disease called Hyper IgE syndrome. This is a rare disease where the immune system is very weak and the patient get repeated infection. Our patient use to need multiple hospital admissions since birth. Bone marrow transplant means giving new immunity. In our patients case his elder brother was a 100% match. He was ready to donate his marrow ( we all can donate bone marrow multiple times unlike solid organ like kidneys!) He was admitted at lotus hospital for 21 day’s in special bone marrow transplant room. He has a new immune system and he will lead a normal life. We are lotus are blessed with excellent and dedicated transplant team consisting of doctors, special trained nurses. It is a multidisciplinary team. We could also do it at almost half the cost as compared to other tier 1 cities. I thank my teachers at kings college hospital in London where I was trained. I thank all our well wishers. This is first of its kind transplant outside Mumbai and Pune.
