Dengue fever.....don't neglect it!

Today all of us are concerned about the rising number of Covid-19 infections and rightly so. I hope you all are keeping safe.
Today I want to enlighten you on a common fever in this particular season " Dengue fever"
We at Lotus hospital see a lot of cases and I have realized that many of us don't go to a doctor immediately.
The hall mark of this disease is
1. Fever often above 103 F.
2. severe headache.
3. severe bodyache.
4. vomiting
5. red coloured rash.
It is a viral infection and cannot be prevented with Face mask!
Culprit is the good old mosquito.
Many patients come to me for treatment because of falling platelet count which is referred to Thrombocytopenia in medical terms.
Many people come with bleeding and in some it cab be life threatening.
We may have to give platelet transfusion to some and few may need ICU care also.
So friends don't miss this common fever in the limelight of Covid 19 the more "famous" viral infection now a days!
