Friends,
good afternoon.
Just saw three patients who had fever. they had a rash on skin. They came to my OPD at Lotus Hospital.
Two were from same family.
severe headache and bodyache was present.
Dengue test was positive.
We did a simple blood test Complete blood count.
Platelet count for first patient (father) was 54, 000 and in his son was 27, 000.
they were really alarmed!
I reassured them that low platelets are very common in dengue fever. The young patient was feeling weak and fluid intake was low.
We decided to admit the son at Lotus hospital.
WE STARTED BASIC TREATMENT AND THERE WAS NO NEED OF ANTIBIOTICS AS IT IS A VIRAL FEVER.
We did not admit his father.
2 days later the platelets increased to 59, 000 and hence we discharged him after 2 days.
friends,
dengue is very common in this rainy season.
things to note:
1. Dont neglect fever.
2. you can take paracetamol for routine fever for 24 hrs.
3. Go to your doctor and get tested for dengue or malarial infection.
4. drink plenty of water.
5. platelet count does not increase with taking various foods like papaya leaves, papaya, kiwi and dragon fruit!
6. keep your home and surroundings mosquito free and take adequate protection.
dengue is easily treatable disease if diagnosed early.
Wish you a healthy " rainy" season. Enjoy Nashik's inviting monsoon in a healthy way.
