Where there is will, there is a way! goes a famous saying.
I experienced the same few days ago at My Hematology consulting at Lotus Hospital.
19 yr old Miss RG came to see me after a gap of 18 months.
she has thalassemia Intermedia ( a type of congenital blood disorder where in which the hemoglobin formed is unstable and hence the patients develop low hemoglobin and needs intermittent blood transfusion).
she is on a drug called hydroxyurea and underwent a surgery called splenectomy (where you remove an enlarged spleen, whose normal function is altered in thalassemia) 7-8 years ago.
she is now working as medical transcription specialist where she interprets the medical records from USA and formulated letter and medical reports. she is doing very well and is supporting her family as well. she is currently based in Pune.
she is a true icon as many patients with thalassemia are a bit depressed and have inferiority complex due to their illness.
Miss RG is a true example of a leader and a source of inspiration. Posting her photo after her consent so that many more patients with chronic disease are inspired by her.
thanks a lot for reading
